BRAND-NEW CD - NEŽINIA

Nežinia. Daumantas Kirilauskas (DKCD 002, 2011)

A couple of words about the pieces of this album.

It consists of three parts. The first part – creation of Miklos Maros. To those who have my first CD, Miklos Maros is known for his piano sonata. He is a Hungarian composer, who lives in Sweden. After performing this sonata I have revealed my wish to composer asking him to create a concert for piano with chamber orchestra. After two and a half years I’ve been pleased to get the strings of this new creation. The piece was dedicated to me. The premiere has been arranged on the 17th of September, 2010 in Klaipeda and it was attended by Miklos Maros himself together with his wife. In this CD you’ll be hearing the recording of the premiere. It was performed in cooperation with Klaipeda Chamber Orchestra conducted by Mindaugas Piečaitis.

Therefore, the first part of this CD is a Live recording. The two other are studio recordings.

In summer of 2010 I received a call from the Lithuanian composer, Feliksas Bajoras. I was at my summer house at that moment. He at once has approached me „Tu“ and offered to perform several of his pieces. I didn‘t refuse and accepted his offer. The first time I have performed them in Anykščiai at the beginning of 2011 during the creational evening of the author. Some of them had a premiere performing. “Relief”, “Obscurity”, “Riddles”, “Sideralis” and “Variation No3” are the ones I have recorded and now am presenting in this album. There are many possibilities for interpretation of these works. It is an endless creational process and according to the author the performer is the proceeder of creation. Like in all art you can search forever and always discover something new, to hear and perform differently. And you can’t ever say this version is final, perfect, irrevocable. Therefore the versions fixed in this recording are not final.

In my first CD you could also hear “Sonata for Piano No1” by Australian composer, Carl Vine. In this CD you’ll be able to listen to No3 where you’ll find both similarities and differences comparing to the first.

This CD in a way consists also of three other parts- polytonality, atonality and tonality. In Miklos Maros music beside pentatonic scales one can find quite a lot of polytonality. The slides of Feliksas Bajoras are atonal. In Carl Vines' Sonata No 3 one can hear a lot of tonality wich is very characteristic of romantic and postromantic music. My experiment is to listen to these streams one by another and to find the common sound which could be applied to all of them. I hope you'll get to like this CD as well as i do.

Double live album "Iš Praeities / From The Past" released

Iš praeities / From the the Past. Daumantas Kirilauskas (DKCD 001)

"Iš Praeities / From The Past" is my youth album.

It is also my first "Live" album.

Volume 1 is covered by recordings which were made

in 1991 during the First International Pianists' Competition

of M.K. Čiurlionis and during my recitals in 1997 and 1999.

For the most of the audience, as well as for me, it is

a memory and documentation of not very old but slightly

forgotten creative history. For many others it is the first

meeting with my creative past which was not witnessed

before.

Volume 2 includes the concert from recent past,

from nowadays, i might say. In December, 2009 i was

playing in the tour of 4 concerts with Sinfonietta Riga

Orchestra. Here you'll be able to listen to the last of

those four concerts, which was recorded on 12-th of

December, 2009 in Vilnius, National Philharmonic.

The third concert  of L. van Beethoven leads me through

all my life. Starting from 1991 it appears to me every

two years or so in one or other life periods. It as if guides me.

I would like to thank Lithuanian National Radio for saving

and helping to collect those recordings.
